The Teaching Behind the Tee

David wrote this as a shepherd who became a king, and he put himself on the other side of the staff. Not the one guarding the flock. One of the sheep. That's the whole psalm in one move. Sheep can't find water, can't fight off a wolf, can't even get back on their feet if they roll over. They have exactly one advantage: a shepherd who is good. "I shall not want" is not a promise of everything you ask for. In the Hebrew it means I will lack nothing I need. Green pastures, still waters, a restored soul, right paths, and a table set in front of your enemies. Every one of those is His job, not yours.

Then Jesus picks up the psalm and says it about Himself: "I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep" (John 10:11). Psalm 23 is not a comfort poem. It's a portrait of Christ. The path on the back of this tee leads somewhere, and the One walking it with you already paid the way.
